Hello! (the birth of my blog)

Okay here goes…my first personal blog entry! …..If you don’t know, I am expecting my second child in July.  I wanted to have a blog about my experiences during pregnancy and birth because I will be doing it very different then what I experienced with my daughter, who is now 3 1/2.  I am planning a homebirth( you may be thinking I am crazy I know!) and I couldn’t be more excited about it.  Once I started meeting with midwives and doing the research I thought it would be wonderful to have a blog about it so anyone who wants more information on it can read it.  I also thought it would be great to compile information on topics that are related and share my resources.  I have decided to go further than that and include topics such as eating organic, not vaccinating, health, recipes and kids crafts!  Why not go all out right?

I am a little behind on starting this blog, mainly because I couldn’t decide on a name! I love crunchy food and drive my husband nuts that I am always crunching so after brainstorming with him and a dear friend we came up with the name.  A couple days later while I was watching ‘ More business of being born”  part 1: Conversations with Legendary Midwife Ina May Gaskin. I heard them reference certain moms as crunchy…. I had to look it up and had a huge smile as I read the following:

Urban Dictionary online has a definition for crunchy mama.
Crunchy Mama:
Mother who supports homebirth, breastfeeding, baby wearing, cloth diapering, co-sleeping, gentle discipline, etc. One who questions established medical authority; tends to be vegetarian and/or prepare all-organic foods. See crunchy and hippie.

How perfect ?!!!!   🙂

I know the idea of a homebirth is very scary to some people and I can’t lie, of course I had fears about it in the beginning, but what I have  learned so far is that having suport and other people to talk to that have done it is a wonderful thing.  Being a part of a circle of women and men that believe in your rights and in nature is so empowering. I hope that I can help other mothers that are considering it.

Thank you in advance for following my blog and for your comments so I know that someone is reading it!

  1. I think it is awesome that you chose to do a home birth, I takes courage. I don’t think I could ever do it.

Looking forward to reading about your journey!
